o - week

Hello, and welcome HBA Class of 2021!

Congratulations on your acceptance into the HBA program! The time has finally arrived where you can officially say you made it into Ivey. You have worked so hard to get here and we hope you are as excited as we are for this upcoming year!

Over the next two years, you will be working alongside some of the brightest students in the country. Trust me when I say the new friendships and connections you will make at Ivey will be invaluable to your personal and professional life. I encourage you to take every opportunity you can to build your network and make lasting connections with your peers!

As the Orientation Team, we have planned a series of events and activities throughout the week that you will not want to miss! We want to give you the opportunity to bond with your Section, learn about Ivey, and feel prepared for the first day of class. In order for you to get the most out of Orientation Week, and your HBA1 year, you must come ready to contribute – just like you will on the first day of classes!

The Orientation team and I feel privileged to be able to support you throughout your HBA1 journey. The best year of your university life is just getting started, we’ll see you soon!!!

Head Guru, Ivey O-Week 2019

Thursday, August 29th

9:00am - 4:00pm

DRESS CODE: Casual with one article of clothing from your original university

Transfer day is the first opportunity for students from other universities entering the HBA program to meet each other as a new and proud Mustang. The day consists of a preview of HBA1 lead by HBA2 students, a tour around main campus, a mock case with an Ivey professor, and hangouts with food and drinks. Use this opportunity to ask questions about best brunch places in London (or the best places to go on a Friday night!)

Friday, august 30th

DRESS CODE: Business Formal

Welcome to HBA1, you’ve made it! You will need to arrive at the Ivey building at 7:30am where you will go through a quick registration and then be bussed to the London Convention Centre. At Opening Gala you will be welcomed to Ivey by various faculty and HBAA members, served breakfast, and listen to keynote speaker Ben Varadi, Director, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer at Spin Master. At the end of Opening Gala your sections will be revealed, and you’ll be taken back to the Ivey building to meet your section mates, your professors, and participate in your first case! Make sure you look sharp, wear business formal attire!

Saturday, August 31st

DRESS CODE: Section Shirts + Athletic Wear

As the first official Ivey Cup event, Ivey Olympics is intended to instill the spirit of competition and initiate bonding within your sections. The event will begin in your section classrooms to create an honorary section flag, then continue to the Western field where you can douse yourselves in paint before the games begin! The games will not require accounting skills (2257 is over) but almost every other skill imaginable. Maybe even some skills when it comes to bouncy castles... Make sure to bring some change or your debit/credit card for the Western Charity BBQ during the games!

Come one come all to Ivey Palooza, a chill day of brunching, section bonding, and a very special final event. After a section brunch, you will be paired with your sister section for a section vs. section family feud battle. PUT YOUR GAME FACE ON, AND BRING YOUR INSTRUMENTS (or other aids in entertainment/performance) and be ready to be mind-blown at the HBA 1 talent show to close off the day.

Sunday, September 1st

Monday, September 2nd

10:00am - 4:00pm

You probably have many questions about the upcoming year. Well, don't worry because Bootcamp has you covered! Start the day in your section classroom where your Gurus will go through life as an HBA1 with guest speakers from Ally@Ivey and MyHBA. Following a Pizza lunch, you will have a Q&A session with your Gurus, participate in bonding activities with your section, and go through your first case in your learning groups.

Friday, September 6th

12:15pm - 6:00pm

DRESS CODE: Beachwear

Head to the beach to celebrate the end of your first week of Ivey Classes! After classes on Friday, you will be bussed to GT’s at Port Stanley, where you will be served lunch and have time to relax in the restaurant or on the beach. Later in the afternoon, the Beach Day Volleyball tournament will begin. It is the second Ivey Cup event, where you’ll go head-to-head against other sections for the ultimate glory and Ivey Cup points. There will also be beach-themed mini games, where you’ll compete for prestigious bragging rights. Once the tournament is over, you’ll be bussed back to London and dropped off at the Ivey Building.

August 20, 2017

For this year’s opening gala, we are very lucky to have John Chayka, HBA ‘14, as the keynote speaker. John is currently the GM and President of Hockey Operations of the Arizona Coyotes NHL franchise, and happens to be the youngest GM in league history. We are excited to hear John’s story on September 1st, and hope that you are too. In advance of hearing him speak at opening gala, we took time with John to ask him some question...
